Dallas SR22 Auto Insurance Policy
Reader’s Question:
I was required to get SR22 insurance here in Dallas but my auto insurance carrier does not offer it. Is it possible for me to retain my current policy and get SR22 from an insurer that offers it?
Garrison
Dallas, TX
SR22 insurance is liability coverage on your auto insurance that is required so that a driver with suspended license can reinstate his/her driving privileges. SR22 auto insurance is distinctively suitable for these circumstances since it asks the auto insurance carrier to inform the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the event that the policy is canceled, terminated or lapses. In such cases, the driver’s license would normally be suspended until the SR22 auto insurance policy is made current or reinstated. In majority of the states, you need to carry SR22 auto insurance for a certain time (normally three years) after the suspension or revocation period of your driver’s license.
You can’t purchase separate policies for SR22 insurance if you currently have auto insurance in place. What you have to do is cancel your policy if your auto insurance carrier in Dallas does not offer SR22 and get a policy from an insurer that does.
Remember that having an SR22 insurance means you are considered as a high risk driver, thus having higher auto insurance rates. You can still be able to find an auto insurance policy that has reasonable rates if you shop around and compare auto insurance quotes from different insurers.

SR22 Insurance in Dallas
Reader’s Question:
Hi! I have been living here in Texas for quite some time. I have been convicted of DUI, and my agent told me that I should file the SR22 form or else I will lose my driving privileges. This is the first time that I have been convicted of such a violation, and I do not know where to start. Can you help me resolve my issues? How can I get car insurance SR22 DUI in Dallas?
Schneider
Dallas, TX
I am afraid your agent was right. Failure to comply with the filing of requirements for SR22 would result in a suspension of your driver’s license and driving privileges. Before that happens, you should take the necessary action to avoid that. You can get your SR22 form from a licensed insurer or your carrier, in your case.
You can file the SR22 form in the State Capital of Texas. You can file it yourself or let your attorney handle it for you. Your insurance company in turn would provide the SR22 form for you or you can let them move the filing.
Usually, you have three years to file it from the date of suspension. During a period of three years, you must maintain and carry your SR22 whenever you are driving as proof of clearance or responsibility. If it expires before the given period or cancelled for that matter, your insurance carrier must notify the ordering state as required by law.
If for instance your SR22 expires just before the given period of three years for some reason, you must renew it to maintain your driving privileges. Failure to do so would mean revoking your license until renewal of SR22 has been filed. It is important that you update your status to your State Licensing Authority and maintain your SR22 to avoid any hassles or problems in the future.
If your license is already suspended before you have a chance to file for SR22, you might want to address the problem first by paying the appropriate fees and fines, and then proceed with your filing.
Finding car insurance SR22 DUI in Dallas is not that hard. You just have to know the requirements and your state laws.

Obtaining car insurance for that individual may be hard if they have no plans to obtain a drivers license again. In most states it is illegal to insure a non-licensed motorist. It is best to contact your state insurance regulator to know her consumer rights.

It would be better if both the driver and the car owner have their own auto insurance so they are protected in case of an accident.

Reader’s Question:
Will my insurance company in Dallas Texas increase my car insurance rates once I reach the age of 65?
Cooper
Dallas, TX
No, car insurance rates do not necessarily increases once you reach age 65. This will depend upon insurance carrier guidelines and state laws if car insurance rates will go up after a driver turns a certain age.
Some insurance providers in Dallas Texas offer lower car insurance rates to those between the age of 50 and 65, since this age group has lower accident rates. After the age 65 insurance rates typically do start to go up again though and people over age 70 may have a hard time finding an insurance carrier to accept them as a new policyholder since accidents for this age group tend to rise.
There are car insurance companies though that provide mature driver discounts for motorists of a certain age with good driving records or discounts to seniors who attend an approved driving class.

Texas TX Drunk Driving Rights

Reader’s Question:
When I was arrested last year, I was not made known of my rights by the policemen who charged me for a DWI arrest. Looking back, does that make my DWI arrest illegal in Texas?
Polly
Dallas, Texas
Nice question Polly. Most people are familiar with the so-called Miranda Rights, which include the right to remain silent and right to have appointed counsel present before you decide whether to answer any questions, once you are in police custody. However, the officers are not required to give Miranda warnings to every individual they caught for a DWI arrest unless they intend to question you once you are in custody. The requirement to give the Miranda warnings applies when the officer wishes to probe a person questions or interrogate them after they have been placed under arrest.
If the officers fail to give you your rights, after you are in custody, then any answers you give to questions can not be used against you in court. But that doesn’t make the arrest illegal. A skilled and experienced DWI defense attorney in Texas can determine whether a motion to exclude statements is warranted in your case.
Dallas Texas DWI Laws Question
Reader’s Question:
It has always been my impression that Dallas DWI laws are harsh. I guess what I need to know is why is it so? What are the DWI laws and rules in Dallas ?
Cindy
Dallas, TX
Thanks for asking, Cindy. Dallas DWI laws may seem harsh for people who take DWI lightly. DWI or driving while intoxicated with alcohol or other drugs is a serious crime especially if it involves lives of others who just happen to share the same public streets with you.
In Dallas , a DWI offender is required to attend classes to break away from alcohol and other drug addiction. If you refused to attend these classes, then your punishment will be made worse.
Whether it is the first DWI offense or the nth time offense, a DWI offender will still be facing the same charge in the same manner. The only difference may be on the amount of penalty or fines which obviously will be lower than frequent offenders.
Also, Dallas DWI laws state that your driving license has to be suspended and you will also have to undergo restrictive probationary license programs. So, prepare spending a good amount of time in jail.
DallasTexas Car Insurance For SR22
Reader’s Question:
Hello, from Dallas, TX. In my state, is there a specific option to fulfill an SR22?
Gene
Dallas, TX
Thanks for asking, Gene. That’s a good question. As you know, an SR22 in Texas is a document that is required as proof of insurance by way of a certificate filed under the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) for persons charged for a certain violation.
Generally, there are 2 options within the state of Texas to fulfill the SR22 requirement and get your license reinstated or avoid getting your driver’s license suspended. In either of the following cases, Texas State minimum liability insurance limits must be maintained and followed. First, you can insure your vehicle (either a scooter, motorcycle, car or truck) in a traditional manner, and accomplish the SR22 as an attachment to the policy. This can be accomplished with liability-only or full coverage, depending on the age and type of your automobile. The second option is to obtain a non-owner policy with the liability limits applied to you, and with coverage for vehicles that you drive but do not possess. This non-owner SR22 (or named operator SR22) can also be used if you own a vehicle and already have an existing coverage in place. This way you will not have to involve your existing insurance company, and you can still take care of your license problem. This case will also apply if you are not a resident of Texas, but have moving violations within the state from past incidents.

Reader’s Question:
Im living in Dallas, Texas, if you get two no insurance tickets will you need SR22 already?
Dan
Dallas, TX
Yes, if you have been convicted of driving without insurance in Texas for a second time, normally, your license will be suspended and to reinstate it you will be required to obtain and carry a SR-22 for two years after your conviction date.
The state of Texas law requires people who operate a vehicle in Texas to be able to pay for any car accidents they cause. Most motorists do this by purchasing automobile liability insurance. Section 601 of the Texas Transportation code is titled the Motor Vehicle Responsibility Act and it states that the financial responsibility motorists in TX should have and penalties for not doing so.
