Reader’s Question:

I was required to get SR22 insurance here in Dallas but my auto insurance carrier does not offer it. Is it possible for me to retain my current policy and get SR22 from an insurer that offers it?

Garrison

Dallas, TX

SR22 insurance is liability coverage on your auto insurance that is required so that a driver with suspended license can reinstate his/her driving privileges. SR22 auto insurance is distinctively suitable for these circumstances since it asks the auto insurance carrier to inform the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the event that the policy is canceled, terminated or lapses. In such cases, the driver’s license would normally be suspended until the SR22 auto insurance policy is made current or reinstated. In majority of the states, you need to carry SR22 auto insurance for a certain time (normally three years) after the suspension or revocation period of your driver’s license.

You can’t purchase separate policies for SR22 insurance if you currently have auto insurance in place. What you have to do is cancel your policy if your auto insurance carrier in Dallas does not offer SR22 and get a policy from an insurer that does.

Remember that having an SR22 insurance means you are considered as a high risk driver, thus having higher auto insurance rates. You can still be able to find an auto insurance policy that has reasonable rates if you shop around and compare auto insurance quotes from different insurers.

Cheap Dallas Car Insurance

Reader’s Question:

Will Dallas car insurance cost a lot? I am looking for something cheap, but has good quality!

Beatrice

Dallas TX

The cost of getting a Dallas car insurance will depend on many factors. First, insurance companies will consider your personal information. If your age is above 25 and you are married, that would go towards lowering your rate for a Dallas car insurance since statistical data show that older women are more responsible drivers compared to younger ones. Statistics also show that women drivers are seldom involved in fatal accidents.

If you are a student, you will likely get a higher premium rate for a Dallas car insurance because of the risks associated with young drivers. The next factor that would affect premium computation is your driving record. A driver who is not involved in car accidents will definitely be rated lower compared to a driver who often files claims due to car accidents, however minor they are. Traffic violations are also counted as a factor in insurance rate computation. While it may not be totally avoidable not to be cited for a traffic violation, make sure that none of this is serious, like driving drunk or without an insurance. Drivers with serious traffic violations are placed in the high-risk category, which definitely will get higher premiums. Being careful means driving at a moderate speed to avoid accidents and traffic violations.

Reader’s Question:

What are the necessary coverages for a Dallas auto insurance ?

Tom

Dallas, TX

The state of Dallas requires liability coverage just like other states in the country. The minimum coverage for a liability in Dallas auto insurance is $20,000 for bodily injury to one person, $50,000 for all bodily injuries, and $25,000 for property damage. While getting a liability insurance is the only requirement under the law, it’s not enough. The liability coverage only protects you from paying for damages when you hit another person while driving or injure a person through a collision. This coverage will pay for the other person’s hospitalization and pay for damages to her car.

However, the liability coverage does not cover your injuries or damages to your car. Without another form of coverage, you are faced with the costs of your hospitalization and repairs to your car. In other words, liability insurance may be the only necessary coverage for a Dallas auto insurance but it’s not enough. You will also need a comprehensive coverage under your Dallas auto insurance to be able to feel safer and more at ease when driving. The comprehensive coverage will also protect you from other forms of damages that are not related to collision. This non-accident related damages could come in the form of theft, vandalism or hitting an animal on the road.

Reader’s Question:

Hi! I have been living here in Texas for quite some time. I have been convicted of DUI, and my agent told me that I should file the SR22 form or else I will lose my driving privileges. This is the first time that I have been convicted of such a violation, and I do not know where to start. Can you help me resolve my issues? How can I get car insurance SR22 DUI in Dallas?

Schneider

Dallas, TX

I am afraid your agent was right. Failure to comply with the filing of requirements for SR22 would result in a suspension of your driver’s license and driving privileges. Before that happens, you should take the necessary action to avoid that. You can get your SR22 form from a licensed insurer or your carrier, in your case.

You can file the SR22 form in the State Capital of Texas. You can file it yourself or let your attorney handle it for you. Your insurance company in turn would provide the SR22 form for you or you can let them move the filing.

Usually, you have three years to file it from the date of suspension. During a period of three years, you must maintain and carry your SR22 whenever you are driving as proof of clearance or responsibility. If it expires before the given period or cancelled for that matter, your insurance carrier must notify the ordering state as required by law.

If for instance your SR22 expires just before the given period of three years for some reason, you must renew it to maintain your driving privileges. Failure to do so would mean revoking your license until renewal of SR22 has been filed. It is important that you update your status to your State Licensing Authority and maintain your SR22 to avoid any hassles or problems in the future.

If your license is already suspended before you have a chance to file for SR22, you might want to address the problem first by paying the appropriate fees and fines, and then proceed with your filing.

Finding car insurance SR22 DUI in Dallas is not that hard. You just have to know the requirements and your state laws.

Auto Insurance Rates Dallas Texas

Reader’s Question:

I’m Sandra and I currently live in Dallas, Texas. I’m curious as to how are car insurance rates being determined? Why are insurance rates different for various cars, even if the cars cost the same?

Sandra

Dallas, TX

Thanks for asking Sandra. Insurance rates set in the State of Texas are different than many other states. The rates are determined by the behavior and accident rates of all Texas’ drivers. The cost of insuring drivers in Texas including settlements and legal fees is totaled for the entire state and divide it up between everyone.

There is much information about you that is used to determine your car insurance rates. You are grouped or pooled together with similar drivers of the same background, so that way you are not paying for drivers that have worse driving capability than you. These includes your gender, age, marital status, driving record, usage of vehicle, how many vehicles you have, where you live, what kind of coverage limits you want, how many drivers you have and their ages, your payment history, what color car your drive, your insurance credit score, claims history, occupation and a lot more.

Automobile vehicles are also grouped into categories according to their likelihood of being damaged, vandalized or stolen. Car insurance companies generally consider the size and type of vehicle, as well as the value and the cost of repairs (which can greatly vary, even on cars that cost roughly the same). Safety is a key when buying a vehicle, putting insurance aside. Some cars are considered safer than others vehicles because of their performance record in safety tests and real accidents. That’s why you should research about insurance coverage before you purchase for a car.

Reader’s Question:

How long do you have to pay the surcharge in the state of Texas? Can you explain what the surcharge please.

Roy

Dallas, TX

Under the Points System Surcharge, points are evaluated to moving violations classified by Texas as class C misdemeanors. The TX Department of Public Safety will evaluate a surcharge when the motorist accumulates a total of six points or more on their driving record in a three year period. The motorist must pay a $100 surcharge for the first six points and $25 for each additional point.

The TX Department of Public Safety will do an annual assessment on the anniversary date of the original surcharge notice. This includes reviewing the driver’s record and determining if the motorist still meets surcharge requirement factor. If the record reflects the motorist had six or more points in the previous thirty six months, then the motorist must pay the surcharge again.

A lot of businesses have vouch that having a van boosts their profits. One reason is that you can deliver goods at a faster rate to your customers. You can carry more supplies thus you can provide more to more buyers. So I guess it’s not much of a question if you can afford a van insurance policy or not. But nevertheless, it is a very good idea that you shop for van insurance quotes before buying the one.

The advantage of getting van insurance quotes before getting the vehicle is that you will have an idea what model, year, engine type, and other van specifications to get that will give you the most affordable insurance policy. This will save you from getting disappointed with your rush decisions.

You can also go to insurance brokers’ websites. It is also good to check them out because they can give you information of van insurance products from different companies. It is like a one-stop shop for different brands of insurance products.

One good feature these websites offer is their online insurance calculator. These online calculators can give you estimated insurance quote for different types and models of van. This will give you idea of what brand, model, year of van can give you the insurance premium that fits your budget. Some insurance companies will even give you bigger discounts if you buy insurance online.

But it is best that you ask second opinion from insurance brokers who specialized in van insurance in Dallas Texas. They might be able to give you a better deal or the same cost of insurance but with more coverage. It pays to be a well-informed buyer.

Reader’s Question:

I would like to get suggestions on how I can negotiate for a cheap car insurance here in Dallas. Thank you for the help.

Marc

Dallas, TX

You have several things to work on if you want to get a cheap Dallas car insurance. First, you should be able to prove to your car insurance company that you are a low risk driver. Low risk drivers, if you not have heard, are entitled to tremendous discounts from car insurance companies. This is because these drivers are obviously less likely to be involved in road accidents and car collisions.

So you should have a good driving history to be rated as a low risk driver. How can you get one? Make sure that you have minimal number of traffic violations. This way, car insurers will rate you as a low risk driver. If you can present a good driving history, there’s a good chance that you will be given cheap Dallas car insurance.

Another thing that you have to focus on is the safety of your vehicle. You must have a car that has a small engine and equipped with security devices like good brake system and anti theft system. Auto Insurance for Teenagers Texas TX

Reader’s Question:

My son keeps insisting that I get him a sporty vehicle for his birthday. He’s still a new driver and I’m kind of concerned for his safety, too. I mean, some of his friends here in Texas can get pretty rowdy. How can I get auto insurance for the boy in a non-expensive way?

Ashley

Dallas, TX

Howdy there, Ashley! New teenage drivers, especially the boys, are a tricky lot. I have one myself, and boy, was he persistent. There are quite a few things that you should remember as a parent. First, it is going to be your wallet that will bail the boy out of trouble. Second, it is still within your parental rights to be concerned of safety. Third, well, auto insurance is pretty tough on young male drivers due to some statistics that they’re highly prone to car accidents.

Whether you are in Texas or in other states, auto insurance will always be that necessary drain. But you can find ways to go around this, and I’ll tell you about the common strategies. You can try the usual route of adding your son to your current auto insurance. You can also talk to your auto insurance company or agent if they recognize some driving schools to get discounts. Some auto insurance companies also look for this. Then there is the ultimate sacrifice– I know you want to give the boy a nice fast car for his birthday, but having a car with a better safety rating will earn you points with the auto insurance companies. The car doesn’t have to be brand-new, so you won’t be pressured to get collision coverage. Then you can also try getting more deductibles to reduce the premiums.

Car Insurance Texas

Reader’s Question:

If I purchase car insurance here in Texas, who can I include in the policy?

Jamie
Dallas, TX

Buying car insurance is one way of giving your family the security they need especially if you’re traveling. And having car insurance is a responsible way of protecting everyone in your family. With car insurance, you not only protect yourself but all the members of your family who are also drivers.

Remember that if you purchase car insurance, all those who can drive in your family will be included in the policy. After all, the insurance policy is directly connected to your car, so anyone who drives it with your permission will be covered. There are companies in Texas that offer car insurance policies that lets you list a number of drivers to be included in your policy.

You can put on that list everyone in your family who drives. Whether it’s your wife, your boyfriend or your roommate, they can be included in your policy provided that you inform your car insurance company about these inclusions. Just be sure you list even those who drive your car occasionally. To illustrate, if your roommate or boyfriend drives your car and they get into an accident, the car insurance company will pay for the damages provided that the driver of your car was listed on your policy.

Failing to do so might cause delay or even denial of your car insurance claims should that occasional driver get into an accident (while driving your car) without being listed as one of the drivers in your policy.

Discounts are also offered to those who have multiple cars or multiple drivers listed on their policy. But just to be sure, try getting free car insurance quotes online or call your local agent there in Texas.
